🎿 This Is How International Students Learn Slalom Skiing with Lions
20.1.2026
What happens when complete beginners try slalom skiing in Finland for the very very first time — with best professional instructors, full skiing equipment, and a supportive lions team around them?
A lot of smiles. Fast learning. And plenty of “WOW” moments.
That’s exactly what happened at last year’s Lions Slalom event for international students, and now we’re doing it again.
ast year’s event shows the atmosphere, learning process, and pure joy on the slope
From arrival to skiing in just 10 minutes – WOW
One of the biggest surprises for participants last year was how easy everything was.
When the group arrived at the ski resort:
All equipment was ready and waiting, clearly labelled with each participant’s name
Skis, boots, helmets – everything organised in advance
No stress, no confusion
Within 10 minutes, everyone had ski boots on and was already practising on the snow.
For many, this was their first time ever wearing ski boots – and yet they were already moving confidently.
That’s when the first “WOW!” was heard.

Step by step – how beginners really learn
During the two-hour session, our ski instructors guided the group through a carefully designed beginner-friendly learning path:
Getting comfortable standing and walking in ski boots
Balancing with one ski on flat ground
Moving with two skis on flat ground
Learning how to use the magic carpet lift
And finally… skiing down the slope

Thanks to professional instructors and Lions volunteers helping on the lifts and slopes, learning was surprisingly fast, safe, and fun.
Many participants were amazed:
“I can’t believe I’m actually skiing already!”

More than a ski lesson – a shared experience
This event is not just about skiing.
It’s about:
trying something completely new
feeling welcome and supported
sharing an experience with others in the same situation
That’s why the event is specifically designed for beginners and international students.
No pressure. No competition. Just learning together.
The real value of the event is around 100 €, but thanks to Lions’ volunteer work and support, participants only pay 40 €.
